NoDo update

Well I couldn’t wait for O2 to get off their lazy ass and “approve” the NoDo update so using the power of the internet and XDA Developers my HD7 is now unbranded and running NoDo 🙂

Took 30 minutes or so including downloading the files, I now have a faster loading phone, applications are notably quicker to launch. It also has the cut and paste which is fine.

However one downside is the keyboard does seem more US centric but I don’t mind an extra key tap to get a £ sign

Do it you know you want to 😀

HD7pre NoDo update

Well this appears to be a weekend for updates! First my HD7 got it’s pre NoDo update which went without a hitch, I’m happy to say, and also the Nexus One got Android 2.3.

It was also interesting to read on WMpoweruser that at least one HTC user was receiving an update to their handset pushed by HTC, in this instance a Mozart.

I do hope this will lead to an update to the HD7 at some point from HTC to resolve a couple of the niggling issues plaguing some users such as the video tearing problem.

Microsoft and Nokia

Well there has been a lot of mixed views on the recent Nokia Microsoft tie up and the decision of Nokia to use windows phone 7, this has upset a lot of Symbian fan boys who have vowed never to buy Nokia again.

This move by Nokia will give them a foothold in the high end smartphone market again with very little outlay and in my opinion is the best of the 2 options, Android devices are 2 a penny these days and it would be difficult for Nokia to be nothing more than another Android device.

I for one look forward to Nokia quality hardware with WP7 as I must admit I have went back to the HD7 and despite a few of the flaws, not sure if it is hardware or OS, the experience is miles ahead of S^3

Only time will tell!

Nokia N8 impressions

OK been just over a week with the N8 and have to say as a phone it is brilliant.

Call quality and reception blows the iphone 4 and htc devices (android /wp7) out of the water, especially in poor signal areas, and hey that’s a phones primary purpose right?

SMS and Messaging is OK, the main drawback is the on screen keyboards, so a must download is Swype which not only gives you a unique text entry method it also provides a nicer landscape keyboard, no dice on portrait yet however,

Battery life it’s good, easy 2 days use with gmail push on, build quality of the device is also excellent, far surpassing any HTC device and on par with the iPhone.

The down side is the OS, it feels over complicated compared to the competitors offerings but you get used to it and it is pretty snappy for a 600mhz processor. If you come from symbian then you will feel at home but anyone coming from iOS / Android may feel frustrated.

Overall I really like the phone despite it’s OS quirks, and that camera is pretty awesome!

Internet Purchasing Impatience (IPI)

Ordered the N8 on Friday just after lunch From Clove Technology.

Just recieved the dispatch notice 😥 why is this Clove? Is it too much to expect same day dispatch?

Or has the internet made me more impatient? I think the later maybe the case, however I was looking forward to my new toy!

Looks like I’ll just have to settle for LPB2 instead.

Nokia N8

Ok I admit it, I love gadgets, can’t help it 🙂 I have had a LOT of smart-phones but no Nokia since my unloved N70 5 – 6 year ago.

The N70 was OK bearable hardware wise but the OS left a bit to be desired, it was just, clunky!

So I have decided to revisit the Nokia camp and ordered a N8! From reports on the web the OS still seems to leave a bit to be desired, but time will tell once it arrives.

Still have the HD7 to fall back on if it is really bad!

GranTurismo 5

Got GT5 for Xmas and do be frank initial reaction was the feeling of being slightly let down, like a cake that looks great but the taste doesn’t live up to the presentation!

Where to start, this game is huge but having played all the other GT’s why oh why do I need to do the frankly lame and useless license tests just so I can race certain races?

Spec B, no thanks I don’t want to manage a driver!

Standard cars? Why? They are rehashed PS2 models with more polygons but look frankly crap compared to the premium cars, hell you can’t even change the wheels! And have no in car view.

If I had known this I wouldn’t have spent my cash on one and went for an older premium RX7.

And the engine sound for my standard car harks back to the PS1 GT IMO.

After playing the excellent well presented Forza 3 on the 360 I feel the time taken to create this new version doesn’t feel justified by the end result unless you put a lot of time and effort in to it.

Just my 2p

Moving to WordPress

Decided to move my blog (which I never update 😉 ) to WordPress just because there is a Windows phone 7 application! Yes I’m that easily led 🙂

And a very nice application it is too, well laid out and quite responsive

A new model? Err no, I had to return my second handset for a third one! Having said that this one has generally been behaving itself, bar the few early release bug bears which will hope fully be quashed next year with the update.

Might move this blog to WordPress not that I have been updating it much! But because there is a WordPress WP7 application so I can still not update the blog but have another tool I never use 😉

Oh and still no signs of any Feral Carrier Bags 😦
